If you plan to climb up the mountain by foot, wear comfortable shoes. If you plan to stay overnight in the pagoda area, carry warm clothing. It can get cold at night.

Women are not allowed to touch the pagoda and hence will be stopped from crossing the bridge to the pagoda.
HOW TO GET THERE
To visit this pagoda, you will first have to arrive at Kin Pun village. The pagoda is about 16 km away from the village.You can take a taxi or take a bus or a train. The journey by road takes about 6-hours and by train takes around 4-hours. However, the train will go till Kyaikhtiyoe. From there you need to transfer to another train to reach Kinpun.
KYAIK-HTI-YOE PAGODA
Fondly known as the Golden Rock, Kyaik Htee Yo Pagoda was built a long time ago, in 574 BC. The pagoda is called ‘Kyaik Htee Yo’ which means ‘the pagoda carried on the hermit’s head’. It is one of the most respected religious sites of the country.
This amazing structure is built on a humongous egg-shaped boulder precariously located on the edge of a rock. As the pagoda is placed on the rock’s summit, it is separated from the mountain due to a ravine that splits the two places. A bridge connects these two locations.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
We suggest visiting this pagoda in October to witness the Kyaik-Hti-Yoe Pagoda Festival that is celebrated by the Myanmarese on the full moon day of Thadingyut. Otherwise, the view of sunset and sunrise from here is amazing. So plan your visit accordingly.
