Who travels without taking at least one album’s worth of photos nowadays? Smartphones have made it much easier for starry-eyed travelers to document their lives in another country, be it a blow-by-blow account on Instagram stories or the occasional photo on Facebook.

Balloons, Glorious Balloons

Crossing Bridges
You’ve probably seen photographs of the U-Bein Bridge in Amarapura before, and it’s famous for a reason. Being the world’s longest teak bridge at 1.2 kilometres surely does lend to its impressive reputation.

If you like snapping photos of people, make sure to visit during sunrise or sunset when foot traffic is high (monks tend to make their commute during these times).           If you prefer being the main model of your photo, the afternoon will be your best bet.

Still Waters
Calm surroundings, picturesque views, and the sight of Myanmar’s iconic leg-rowing fishermen make for splendid photographs. These idyllic luxuries turn Inle Lake      – nestled in the Shan Hills      – into a must-visit destination on your itinerary.

If capturing stills of life along the water is of interest to you, then perhaps a boat ride will be necessary. Don’t overlook the nearby stilt houses, floating gardens, and floating markets for your photo-ops as well. You can even put the camera down and explore other attractions such as the Jumping Cat Monastery and the Hpaung Daw U Pagoda.

World’s Oldest Buddhist Stupa
Built some 2,600 years ago, the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon is as magnificent as it is historical. This massive structure stands so tall that you might find yourself hard-pressed to even take a photo of the entire pagoda.

What makes it great for photos is its gold-plated exterior and gem-encrusted tip, adding that much more splendour to this awe-inspiring site.

The Golden Rock
Some structures, like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, seem almost impossible. And that’s the exact impression that the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda in the Mon State will leave on you. Perched somewhat precariously atop Mount Kyaiktiyo at 1,100 metres above sea level, the Golden Rock will look good in photos from any angle.

What makes it even more impressive is the legend behind it      – it’s believed that a strand of hair from Buddha himself is what’s keeping this rock from falling off the edge.
