This picturesque little town is nestled in the lap of the lush green Shan Hills of Shan State. The town has multiple names – Keng Tung, Chiang Tung, Cheingtung and Kengtong – mostly due to the diversity of the people who live in the town.
The town is best explored on foot. Motorcycle taxis are also available for as little as 500 Kyats. The town is an ideal place to get away from the world and enjoy some quality time with nature.
HOW TO GET THERE
- Tourists are required to request for a car permit if you plan to drive a car within the town. The other travelling method around town is by motorcycle.
- Kyaing Tong is a new tourist destination. It is best to reach this town through domestic flights available from Yangon, Heho, Tachleik and Mandalay.

ONE TREE HILL
This hill is a prominent landmark of Kyaing Tong town, made recognisable by a 250-year-old lone tree standing on it. The Kanyin Phyu tree was planted in 1753 and is 218 feet in height.

CENTRAL MARKET
The town market is pretty large and is open till 1 PM every day. The best products are available early in the morning. It is also the time when you can watch the locals go about their daily routines. Don’t forget to check out the food section in the market.
NYAUNG TONG LAKE
This pretty lake is at the centre of the town and is surrounded by impressive colonial architecture. The lake is a lively place, especially in the evenings. Locals flock to the lake to enjoy their evenings.
